SmallRig Wooden Side Grip Review

Today I wanted to show you one of my favorite SmallRig accessories, the wooden side handle.

This isn’t the most necessary SmallRig part I have, but like I said it’s one of my favorites. The new GH5 cage did make it much easier to handhold the camera even with the cage attached, but this grip is still far more comfortable. It’s a great size, for my hand at least, and contoured perfectly for a very secure grip.

I’ve found that, while not perfect, handheld shots are a little smoother when using this grip as well. Check out the video above for a quick little side by side with and without the grip. What’s even nicer is that because of the rosette attachment, you can twist the handle to fit your hand more comfortably at absolutely any angle. This also, of course, increases both comfort and stability when holding the camera in those positions.

There are a few different choices for how to attach the rosette, but I went with the NATO clamp version since I can slide it lower or higher easily and quickly remove it without any tools.

I have just one at the moment but you could get a handle for each side and hold this setup very securely or even use the handle reversed when shooting selfie style for a more comfortable grip in place of using a Gorillapod or something along those lines.

If you’re interested in either of these parts, I’ll have links down below so feel free to check them out. If you ever shoot handheld, I'd HIGHLY recommend this so don't miss out!
